Are you using landing pages? If not, maybe it is time to look at using these tools to help promote your business. The data suggests they can be very effective. In this first part of a three part series I want to touch on the first L of the LLC: Landing pages.
Landing pages highlight a specific part of your business. It can help people who are looking for something specific find you faster and get the information or product from you versus spending time searching all over websites.
A good landing page will eliminate distractions like navigation tabs, competing links, and alternate options. The goal of the page is for you to capture your visitor’s undivided attention.
There are some best practices according to the company Hubspot that all landing pages should have:
1) A benefit focused headline. By telling the viewer what to expect you can reduce the bounce rate of the page. Explain the value of being on the page clearly and concisely. You have about 3 seconds to make an impression that will cause the visitor to stay, use that time wisely.
2) Images should support the offer. If you want the visitor to know the product will make them happy, use images that reflect that.
3) Have a clear call to action and make the offer relevant. If you sell outdoor gear and apparel, don’t make the offer about maps. For your call to action use clear content like “submit” “download now” or “get it now.” The offer is what the visitor is trading their information for, and the call to action needs to support the visitor doing that important final step.
4) Write compelling copy and keep the lead form above the scroll line. Remember you are working with seconds, not minutes so the copy should reflect that. Making sure the form the visitor is filling out one of the first things they see will also help get more leads from your landing page.
5) Optimize for both mobile and desktop web searches. Nearly half of all searches are mobile now. DO not leave that market out of your landing page strategy. Make sure your entire web efforts are optimized for both mobile and desktop.
6) SAY THANK YOU. Yes, include a thank you page. It helps to create the impression that your company cares about the people visiting the site, and it can deliver what you promised in the offer.
Landing pages are a great way to grow your business. They are easy to create and can be a great way to connect people to your main site.
The page should be able to convey the important points in under 5 seconds. An easy way to check this is to ask someone who is not attached to the project to view it quickly and then tell you what they saw.
Landing pages can help your business grow. Landing pages convert at a rate of 10%. That means new leads for your business.
Being honest and transparent to address fears consumers have (spam, ID theft etc.) will increase conversions by 80%.
Personalization of the offer will cause your conversion rate to increase by over 200%. Personalization is a huge part of success in E-commerce. That will be covered in a later post.
